Aerial view of Kootenay Lake and the mountains around Kaslo

Our story

Moving from Manitoba to grow and build a life in the West Kootenay.

We’re looking for a place to buy, or rent while we find the right long-term home.

We’re Spencer and Jenna, 33 and 31, both born and raised on the Prairies. We love where we’re from, but the place we keep picturing looks nothing like it: mountains, forest past the back fence, water close enough to hear.

We keep coming back to Kootenay Lake, and in particular the stretch between Crescent Valley and Lardeau. The lake and the mountains are what drew us in. The communities around them are why we’re sure. We’d rather wait years for the right property there than settle for a good-enough one somewhere else.

The plan is a small homestead and regenerative farm. A house, a big garden, a handful of animals, and enough land to look after well. We’re not developers, and we have no interest in subdividing or anything industrial. It’s where we want to raise and grow our family — the kids are still to come, but our two dogs, Jasper and Aubrey, are already here and will be in the middle of everything. We’ll care for the land and leave it healthier than we found it.

On the practical side: Spencer founded and an international remote business, and Jenna is an elementary school teacher. We’re both at the point where we can step back from work and put our time into building this. We’re in a strong position financially, and for the right property we can make the sale process smooth and quick.

So if you own land along that stretch and have ever thought about selling, even in passing, we’d like to hear from you. No pressure and no obligation; just a conversation. We read every message ourselves, and if your property sounds like it might fit, we’d be glad to come walk it with you and introduce ourselves in person.

Jasper & Aubrey

Our two pups come everywhere with us. They’re well-trained, easy-going, and as ready for a simpler life in the mountains as we are.
